What is the ruling on a wife visiting a gynecologist without her traveling husband's knowledge and consent, even if accompanied by her mother, and is expiation required of her, and is her husband's divorce of her considered unjust, taking into consideration that she is a righteous wife and her action caused her husband psychological distress?

If a woman needs medical treatment, she should go to a Muslim female doctor if one is available. Otherwise, it is permissible for her to go to a male doctor, while observing the Sharia regulations, such as avoiding privacy (khalwa) and not exposing more than what is necessary. It is preferable that the doctor be a person of faith and good character. As for obeying the husband, she must obey him if there is an alternative to going to the doctor. However, if she is in need of treatment and there is no alternative, then there is no obedience to him if he forbids her, because obedience is only in what is permissible (ma'ruf). The expiation for violating this is repentance.
