Is it permissible for a chronically depressed patient, who is suffering from severe physical and psychological pain, to stop medicinal treatment and rely solely on God, given her desire to return to her home country (Egypt) in hopes that her condition might improve, despite her husband and children preferring to stay in America? Would her returning to Egypt without her husband and children be considered a sin, and is the non-responsiveness of her prayers linked to her presence in "lands of disbelief" or her sometimes consuming non-halal food?
We ask Allah to grant you a speedy recovery. You should consistently perform Ruqyah (Islamic exorcism/healing), recite the Quran, engage in remembrance of Allah (dhikr), and maintain your prayers. Increase your supplications (du'a), for their outcome is always good. Either Allah will hasten your plea, or store it for you in the Hereafter, or avert from you a similar amount of evil. Thank Allah that your affliction is in this world and not in your religion, for the former is temporary, while the latter is an eternal loss. It is not permissible to travel without the husband's permission, and you must stay by his side to care for the children. If he grants you permission, then travel is permissible on condition that a mahram (unmarriageable kin) is present, and it is not permissible to eat what is forbidden except out of dire necessity.
