What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding abandoning one's wife after her repeated correspondence with non-mahram men?

Firmness is required with the wife when there is cause for suspicion, as it is a praiseworthy form of jealousy. If the wife continues to correspond with men and insists on it, she is disobedient (nashiz), and there are gradual Sharia-compliant steps to address a disobedient wife. If the wife's conduct does not improve, then separation is preferable. Abandonment (hajr) is not the first step in finding a solution, and its method has been explained in previous fatwas.
