What is the ruling on a woman's prayer if she becomes pure from menstruation or postpartum bleeding after the time for 'Asr prayer has begun? Does she have to make up the Dhuhr and 'Asr prayers, or only 'Asr? And how does she make up prayers at other times (Fajr, Dhuhr, Maghrib, 'Isha)?

If a woman purifies herself from menstruation or post-natal bleeding after the time for Asr prayer has begun, she is required to perform both the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, according to the majority of scholars. Al-Athram and Ibn Al-Mundhir narrated from Abdul Rahman ibn Awf and Ibn Abbas that they said concerning a menstruating woman who purifies herself before dawn with enough time for one unit of prayer (rak'ah): "She prays Maghrib and Isha. And if she purifies herself before sunset, she prays Dhuhr and Asr." However, if she purifies herself after sunset, she only prays Maghrib. And if she purifies herself after Fajr (dawn), she only prays Fajr. But if she purifies herself after sunrise, she does not pray Fajr.
