Is having sex with one's wife without her consent considered rape, forbidden, and an act of transgression on the husband's part?

A husband's intimacy with his wife without her consent is not considered rape. A wife must answer her husband's call to bed unless there is a legitimate Sharia excuse. If a wife refuses without an excuse, she is considered disobedient (nashiz), and the husband may employ the legitimate Sharia methods to address this disobedience. If intercourse occurs thereafter, the husband is not considered an aggressor. Both spouses are advised to foster understanding and mutual respect, and to fulfill their reciprocal rights.
