Do clothes stained with prostatic fluid become pure merely by sprinkling them with water, or is it necessary to remove the impurity itself by washing?

Scholars differ regarding pre-seminal fluid (madhy) that gets on clothes: whether it must be washed like other impurities or if sprinkling (nadh) suffices, to avoid hardship and remove difficulty. The latter opinion is stronger in evidence and more lenient for those obligated, for if washing is deemed obligatory, then the physical impurity must be removed. But if sprinkling is deemed sufficient, then that is enough for purification.

It is stated in Al-Insaf by Al-Mardawi: "Pre-seminal fluid is impure, so it is washed like the rest of the impurities, according to the correct view of the [Hanbali] Madhhab, and this is the view of the majority. There is also a narration from him regarding pre-seminal fluid that sprinkling suffices for it, and it becomes pure by it, like the urine of a boy who has not yet eaten solid food."

Ibn Al-Qayyim says: "The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about pre-seminal fluid, and he commanded performing ablution from it. Then he was asked: 'What do you think about what has gotten on my garment from it?' He said: 'You take a handful of water and sprinkle it where you think it has gotten on it.' And this is the correct view because this is an impurity that is difficult to guard against due to how often it afflicts the clothes of an unmarried young man. Thus, it is more deserving of leniency than the urine of a boy or the bottom of a khuff (leather slipper) and shoe."
