What is the way to remain steadfast in prayer and abandon masturbation despite the overwhelming lust?

Prayer is the greatest matter of the religion after faith. It is the pillar of Islam and the key to all good. It is obligatory to maintain it and to seek help through patience and prayer, as Allah Almighty says: {And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah]} (Quran 2:45). Among the things that help in maintaining it are performing the five daily prayers on time, in congregation at the mosque, and associating with righteous people. It is also obligatory to cease the prohibited act of masturbation and to beware of the whispers and schemes of Satan that lead to despair from repentance and rectitude.
