Are the disbelievers happy in their worldly life?
True pleasure, happiness, and a good life in this world lie in faith in Allah and drawing closer to Him, as Allah Almighty says: ﴿Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life.﴾
As for those who turn away from Allah, they have no share in this pleasure. Rather, they live a life of hardship in this world, in the Barzakh (intermediate realm), and in the Hereafter, as Allah Almighty says: ﴿And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a difficult life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.﴾
Disbelievers may feel some pleasure in this world, but it is not true pleasure. Pains surround them, and they do not perceive it, like a drunk person who does not realize the enormity of their calamity. Any pleasure that leads to pain in the Hereafter or prevents the pleasure of the Hereafter is forbidden and false, like the pleasures of disbelievers and transgressors, which are in reality a reprieve and enticement for them to increase in sin.
The passionate lovers, the profligates, and the oppressors are not in pleasure; rather, they are in torment. However, the intoxication of desire and the death of the heart prevent them from feeling the pain. When the causes of their desires are removed, their souls will feel intense pain.
