What is the ruling on taking items found by mistake in shipments of books intended for sorting, as well as books decided for destruction?

It is not permissible to dispose of books containing the names of Allah or texts of revelation in the trash.

As for discarding furniture in the dump, it is forbidden if it can still be used, because it is considered extravagance and wastefulness, based on Allah's saying: "And do not be extravagant; indeed, He does not like those who are extravagant" and "Indeed, the squanderers are brothers of the devils."

If the manager orders furniture or books to be thrown into the dump, it is permissible for anyone who takes them to dispose of them as they wish, such as giving them to the needy or using them. This is because the manager's order indicates that he does not wish to benefit from them, and benefiting from them or giving them to the needy is more worthy than wasting them.
