The question

Is the status of a deceased child (Yusuf) who had Down syndrome, after suffering from an illness and undergoing surgery, the same as other children who die and enter Paradise? And is there expiation upon the mother for her crying and carrying her deceased son while she was menstruating, and for wearing black for more than three days, despite her knowledge that crying over the deceased and carrying him are forbidden?

The answer

The questioner's son is in Paradise. She must be patient and seek recompense to attain the great reward. Her weeping over her child does not harm her, for merely weeping over the deceased is not forbidden. However, if it is accompanied by wailing, such as scratching the face or tearing clothes, she must repent and seek forgiveness. Carrying a child during menstruation is not forbidden, and mourning for a child is not permissible for more than three days.
