Is a woman rewarded for lengthening her garment, for every speck of dust that clings to it? And is it permissible for her to lengthen it to the ankles, especially in winter?

Firstly: A Muslim woman must cover her feet when going out into the street because they are considered 'awrah (parts of the body that must be covered). The Prophet, peace be upon him, permitted lengthening the garment a span or more below the ankles to cover the feet, and this was the common practice during his time.

Secondly: The mud of the streets is originally pure. A small amount of it is excused, even if its impurity is certain, due to the widespread nature of the affliction and the difficulty of avoiding it.

Thirdly: If a woman steps on a dirty spot and some of it gets on her clothes, what comes after it purifies it, as narrated in the hadith of Umm Salamah, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "What comes after it purifies it."

Fourthly: A woman should not wear a garment that reaches only to the ankles, fearing that her feet might become uncovered. She should lengthen it to ensure complete covering. However, if she wears a garment that reaches the ankles along with shoes that completely cover her feet and shins, then that is permissible for her.

Fifthly: The saying that a woman is rewarded for every speck of dust that clings to her garment if she lengthens it has no basis in Islamic law.
