Will his wife become lawful for a man who divorced her three times, knowing that he pronounced the first divorce while she was in a state of postnatal bleeding (nifas) and possibly in a state of major ritual impurity (janaba), and the second divorce while she was pregnant, and he repeated the word of divorce multiple times in the second instance while in a state of extreme anger due to his son?

Anger does not prevent the occurrence of divorce unless it is so severe that it overwhelms the mind of the one experiencing it. Divorcing a menstruating woman, or divorcing her during a period of purity in which intercourse occurred, or divorcing her more than once in a single session, is an innovated (bid'i) and forbidden divorce. However, it is considered valid according to the majority of scholars, and this is the most preponderant and acted-upon opinion.

Therefore, if you divorced your wife while being aware, your divorce is effective, and she has become irrevocably separated from you (baynunah kubra). However, if scholars of knowledge issue a fatwa to you that the innovated divorce does not occur, then there is no harm upon you in adopting their opinion if you are confident in their knowledge and piety.

It is advisable to present the matter to the Sharia court or to trustworthy scholars and to act upon their pronouncement.
