Is rabbit meat permissible to eat; is it forbidden or allowed?

Eating rabbit is permissible according to the majority of scholars, due to what was narrated by Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he hunted a rabbit and the Prophet (peace be upon him) accepted eating it. Furthermore, it is considered a wholesome animal, does not possess fangs with which it preys, and no text has been revealed to prohibit it.
