Is a young man considered a hypocrite if he records and broadcasts the Azan in his beautiful voice – in the Hijazi style – on Facebook, seeking to improve his voice in the Azan, and receives comments and likes from relatives and friends? And how does he rid himself of his doubt about falling into hypocrisy? And should he delete the videos he has broadcast?

It is advisable to stop publishing videos and delete previous ones, because the human soul is weak in the face of ostentation (riya') and that which mars sincerity. Al-Ghazali warned against ostentation, recalling the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "Indeed, the most I fear for my nation is ostentation and the hidden desire which is more subtle than the creeping of a black ant on a smooth rock on a dark night."

Al-Ghazali explained that scholars and worshippers might fall into ostentation after striving against their souls, seeking rest from the hardship of striving, to the pleasure of acceptance by people, and their joy at people's praise and satisfaction, which frustrates the reward of their deeds.

Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that hidden polytheism (shirk), which is more subtle than the creeping of an ant, dominates souls. He mentioned a supplication for deliverance from it: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from associating anything with You while I know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do not know."

He also explained that hidden desires, such as the love of leadership, spoil for souls the realization of their love and servitude to Allah.
