Who was it that made an idol out of dates and worshipped it, then ate it, and what is the full story behind that?

Scholars have mentioned that the people of the Pre-Islamic Era (Jahiliyyah) used to craft idols from everything, and perhaps they even made them from dates. If they became hungry, they would eat them. We have not come across a detailed story of a specific person who did this.
