What is the ruling on subscribing to the "Orchestra Club Card" discount card, which offers discounts in exchange for paying a sum of money for a period of one or two years?
It is not permissible to engage in the aforementioned transaction because it involves gambling and unlawfully devouring people's wealth. The participant pays an amount for discounts, and may either win more than they paid or lose, which is prohibited gambling. Allah, the Almighty, says: "O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone altars [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful." (Al-Ma'idah: 90).
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade Gharar (uncertainty), which is when something has an outwardly appealing appearance that deceives the buyer, but an unknown inner reality.
