What is your advice to a married woman with a young daughter, who lives with her husband in France, and her husband treats her badly, curses her, and insults her, and also demands that she return to her home country, and he has confided in her that he drinks alcohol, and she does not want a divorce for the sake of her daughter and the difficulty of returning to her home country?

A husband insulting his wife and taunting her about her lack of money is haram, and some scholars consider it one of the major sins, based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "Insulting a Muslim is wickedness," and because Allah Almighty commanded kindness towards them. It is not permissible for a man to abandon his wife for a period that harms her. The wife must repent to Allah from sins like removing the hijab, and she should advise her husband to stop drinking alcohol, and remind him of her legitimate rights upon him, which is to treat her with kindness. If he does not respond to the advice and continues to drink alcohol, it is better for the wife to seek a divorce.
