Is it permissible for a divorced wife to take money from her ex-husband, with his consent, as compensation for her unpaid work with him for years in business in America, and would she be sinful for doing so, knowing that after the divorce, she is only entitled to what was stipulated in the marriage contract?

It is permissible for a divorced woman to accept what her ex-husband gives her willingly and with a good heart. However, if he is not willing to give money, she is entitled to what a divorced woman deserves by Sharia. She has no right to compensation for her work with him in trade unless she worked for a wage or it was customary that her work was not a donation. Custom is the arbiter in this regard: if the custom is based on forgiveness and donation, she is not entitled to anything; otherwise, she should be compensated with a fair wage, taking into account what was spent on her.
