How is a person punished in the grave, both in body and soul, when they have not yet been held accountable and the evidence has not yet been established against them?

The torment of the grave is established by texts, while the reckoning occurs on the Day of Resurrection, as stated in the Almighty's words: {O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people with truth and do not follow [personal] inclination, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allah. Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allah will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.} Allah does not punish anyone except after the proof has been established against them by the delivery of the message. This means that the person was able to learn about Islam. So, whoever has had the proof established against them and committed what necessitates punishment in their grave, they will be punished without waiting for the reckoning on the Day of Resurrection.
