Is it permissible to inform the relatives of the husband—who drinks alcohol and neglects his family—about his behavior, and is that considered exposing him? And are his parents wrong for not telling me about his drinking alcohol before marriage? And is it possible for a husband addicted to alcohol, who is stingy and does not maintain his prayers, to reform after separation?

If the husband abandons prayer, drinks alcohol, is remiss in providing for his family, and is abusive in his marital relations, then he is in grave danger, and the wife’s continued presence with him is a clear harm. If counsel does not benefit him, and the intervention of relatives is fruitless, then we advise the wife to seek divorce or khul’ from him, unless he repents sincerely and shows signs of righteousness. For the safety of her religion and her worldly life lies in separation from such a husband. Al-Mardawi mentioned that a woman can free herself from him through khul’ and similar means if the husband abandons Allah's right.
