The answer

Both sorcery and adultery are major sins. Sorcery is one of the seven destructive sins mentioned by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about the greatest sins, and he mentioned associating partners with Allah, then killing one's child for fear that they might share one's food, then a man committing adultery with his neighbor's wife.

The sinfulness of sorcery varies; some forms of it are disbelief that expels one from the faith, while others are lesser than that. It also varies according to the corruptions it leads to; some forms may cause adultery or something more severe, while others are less grave. Therefore, sorcery may be a greater sin than adultery, or lesser.

Al-Nawawi mentioned that the greatest major sin after polytheism is murder. As for the rest of the major sins, such as adultery, sodomy, sorcery, and disobeying parents, they have details and rulings by which their ranks are known, and they differ according to circumstances and the corruptions resulting from them.
