Is it considered Islamically commendable to increase supererogatory prayers and supplicate for the forgiveness and guidance of one's oppressor, or is it a blameworthy affectation?

It is permissible for a Muslim to dispel their sorrows through prayer and supplication, because Allah commanded seeking help through patience and prayer. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when distressed by a matter, would hasten to prayer. Among the benefits of the verse is that if sorrows prolong, a Muslim should resort to patience and prayer. Supplicating for the oppressor's guidance and forgiveness is a commendable act of pardon and reform. Allah praised forgiveness and encouraged it, and it is narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed for the forgiveness of his people who had harmed him.
