What is the meaning of Allah's saying (And kill them wherever you overtake them)?

The noble verse: "And kill them wherever you overtake them" (2:191) appears twice in the Holy Quran. The first is in Surah Al-Baqarah and pertains to fighting the polytheists who fight Muslims, [indicating] that they may be killed wherever possible. The second is in Surah An-Nisa and speaks about a group of hypocrites who outwardly profess Islam. If they do not withdraw from the Muslims, surrender, make peace, and cease their fighting, they are to be killed wherever they are found. The meaning of "wherever you overtake them" (حَيْثُ ثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْ) is: wherever you find them and meet them.
