How is lawful ruqyah performed for a 9-month-old infant who does not sleep at night?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The child's inability to sleep may be due to an illness, the evil eye, or magic. He should be treated with legitimate ruqyah, such as al-Mu'awwidhatayn (the two surahs of seeking refuge), Surah al-Fatihah, and Ayat al-Kursi, as well as prophetic supplications like: "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created," and "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and harmful creature, and from every evil eye." He should also be taken to a doctor to diagnose any physical illness. The seeking of refuge (ta'awwudh) must be correct and in agreement between the heart and the tongue, with sincere devotion to Allah. There is no harm in reciting the Qur'an and supplications over water with which the child is washed and from which he drinks, or over oil with which his body is anointed.
