What is the ruling on intoning Du'a al-Qunut and prolonging it for more than 20 minutes, with supplications within it that resemble ordinary speech?

Qunut in Witr prayer is a Sunnah (prophetic tradition), and the best supplication for it is what has been narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, such as: "O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided..." It is permissible to add to the reported supplication what suits the situation, but this addition should not be made a fixed habit. Rather, it should be done sometimes and left sometimes, because acts of worship are based on emulation, and continuous addition may lead to innovation. Qunut should be concise, and prolonging it to twenty minutes or more is disliked (makrooh) and burdensome for the worshippers. As for beautifying the voice and melodiously reciting the supplication, if it is without exaggeration or over-the-topness that reaches the point of singing and playing with emotions, then it is permissible, because beautifying the voice in recitation is legislated. However, exaggeration and artificiality, or making it a means to attract people's attention and show off skill, is blameworthy and reprehensible.
