Do all disbelievers hate Muslims and wish them ill and disbelief, and are they included in Allah's saying: "And they will continue to fight you until they turn you back from your religion if they are able" and His saying: "They wish that you would disbelieve as they disbelieved, so you would be equal"? Or are there some among them who wish good for Muslims and love them, as Allah's saying indicates: "And you will surely find the nearest of them in affection to the believers those who say, 'We are Christians'"?

The general principle is that disbelievers are hostile towards Muslims, despise them, and wish them ill. However, it is not impossible for there to be disbelievers who wish well for some Muslims due to kinship or natural affection. This is evidenced by what Abu Talib and Al-Abbas did for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, before their conversion to Islam, and also by the tribe of Khuzā'ah, both their believers and disbelievers. The verse: "Many of the People of the Scripture wish they could turn you back to disbelief after your belief, out of envy from themselves" [Qur’an 2:109] does not encompass all of the People of the Scripture, but rather only many of them, because some of them are hoped to embrace faith.
