Do the words "great sacrifice" in Surat As-Saffat (107) refer to Christ incarnated as God, as Christians claim? And what is the wisdom behind sending the ram to Abraham?

The verse, "And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice," came in the context of the story of Ishmael's ransom, and it does not pertain to Jesus, peace be upon him. The Holy Qur'an explicitly states that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified, but rather, he was raised to Allah.

As for the description "great," it is not exclusively attributed to Allah Almighty alone. Rather, Allah has described many things as great, such as torment, reward, dominion, calumny, and others. These creations possess a greatness befitting them, which does not resemble the greatness of Allah.

Regarding the wisdom behind the ransom, despite Allah's knowledge of Abraham's obedience, peace be upon him, the purpose of trials is to test servants based on their actions, not based on Allah's knowledge of them. Abraham and Ishmael succeeded in this test, as elaborated by Ibn Kathir in his tafsir. This trial was a clear test for the Friend of Allah (Abraham) concerning his patience and obedience to Allah's command. We advise staying away from doubts and safeguarding the religion from them.
