Must one who obtained a job through bribery repent by leaving the work, even if he performs it correctly?

Fatwa Summary:

Bribery to obtain a right that one deserves is permissible if it is unavoidable, but it remains forbidden for the recipient of the bribe. As for bribery to obtain a right to which someone else is more entitled, it remains fundamentally forbidden, based on the words of Allah Almighty: "And do not consume one another's wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that you may consume a portion of the wealth of the people sinfully while you know" (Quran 2:188), and the Hadith: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) cursed the one who gives bribes and the one who takes them."

For repentance from bribery: 1. Repentance to Allah and relinquishing the position to one who is more entitled to it. 2. If the bribery relates to the rights of people, then their rights must be cleared by returning the money or similar restitution, or by enabling them to obtain their rights.

Conditions of repentance: - If the sin is between the servant and his Lord: cessation of the sin, regret, and a firm resolve not to return to it. - If it relates to a human being: the three aforementioned conditions, in addition to absolving oneself of the right of the person concerned.
