Can tribulation be wrath and punishment from Allah, and can it be lifted by supplication and drawing closer to Him, and what are the invocations and acts of worship that contribute to that?

Allah tests His servants as He wills, and the believer endures Allah’s decree patiently and does not despair. Affliction may be for the expiation of sins, the elevation of ranks, the purification of believers, or a punishment for misdeeds. Affliction is lifted by resorting to Allah and supplicating Him, through sincere repentance, and by increasing acts of obedience and remembrance, such as: "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers" and "Allah is sufficient for us, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs."
