What is the ruling on a university student assigning the work of a research paper that is his responsibility to another person in exchange for money, while submitting the research as if it were the student's own work?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible for a student to give a sum of money to someone to write a research paper for him, and then submit it to the university as his own work. This involves lying, deception, and falsehood, all of which Allah and His Messenger have forbidden. Allah Almighty says: "And avoid the word of falsehood." In Sahih Muslim, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who pretends to have been given what he has not been given is like one who wears two garments of falsehood," and "Whoever cheats us is not of us." This deception leads to the student obtaining a degree he does not deserve, and it may lead to him assuming positions for which he is not qualified. A Muslim must avoid this act, whether as an employee or an employer.
