How can a Muslim guard against the widespread temptations in society?
If one lives in a country where immorality is widespread and it is difficult to adhere to Allah's commands, then it is not permissible to remain there. One must emigrate to a country where it is possible to live righteously according to Allah's law. Societal corruption does not justify falling into sin. You must adhere to Allah's law, avoid sins, and guard against societal corruption. What helps in this regard is observing the obligatory prayers, increasing in supererogatory acts, especially fasting, occupying one's time with beneficial activities, hastening to marry a religious woman, choosing righteous companionship, and avoiding the company of the corrupt and places of temptation. If you cannot marry and fear falling into fornication, then masturbation is permissible to avert the grave sin of fornication, by committing the lesser of two harms. This is permissible in cases of necessity, fearing fornication or illness, and it is a view permitted by groups among the Salaf and later scholars. Feeling Allah's constant watchfulness helps in avoiding sins.
