If the pregnancy exceeds eighty days, then any bleeding that precedes the miscarriage and is connected to it is considered nifas (postnatal bleeding) and prohibits prayer and fasting. However, if the pregnancy does not exceed this period, then the blood discharged before, with, or after it is considered istihada (irregular bleeding) and does not prohibit prayer and fasting. Breastfeeding a child during intercourse is permissible.
