Is the Hadith true which states that whoever misses a prayer in this world will have to make it up on the the pavement of Hell in the Hereafter, and what is its text, if it exists?

Whoever intentionally misses a single prayer until its time has expired has committed a grave sin. Allah the Almighty has promised severe punishment for this, as He says: "Then, there succeeded them a posterity who neglected prayers and pursued desires; so they are going to meet Ghayy [i.e. Hell]" (Maryam/59).

As for what is circulated among people, that whoever intentionally misses a single prayer will make it up on the "tiles of Hell," this is a baseless statement in the Sunnah or early Islamic tradition, as affirmed by Sheikh Muhammad Rashid Rida and Sheikh Ibn Baz.

Sheikh Ibn Baz clarified that whoever intentionally abandons prayer must repent to Allah, and repentance nullifies what preceded it. Therefore, they are not required to make up the missed prayers because they were disbelievers by abandoning them. Just as a disbeliever, upon embracing Islam, is not obligated to make up the acts of worship missed during their period of disbelief, similarly, an apostate who repents is not. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the Companions did not command anyone who embraced Islam or repented from apostasy to make up what they missed.
