What is the ruling on one who misuses what he possesses under the pretext of being able to replace it?

This behavior is religiously forbidden because it leads the person to extravagance and squandering, which are prohibited in the Holy Quran by the words of Allah Almighty: ﴿And do not be extravagant. Indeed, He does not like the extravagant.﴾, and His saying: ﴿Indeed, the squanderers are brothers of the devils.﴾ Moreover, it is not fitting for a Muslim to answer Allah Almighty in this manner if He asks him about his wealth and how he spent it, as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: «The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about... his wealth: from where he acquired it and in what he spent it.»

This behavior also contradicts piety, which necessitates acting in the most righteous ways, and it goes against what intellect dictates regarding good management and preservation of wealth. Thus, its perpetrator resembles the foolish who are prohibited from managing their own wealth, and it falls under the category of wasting money, which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade by saying: «Indeed, Allah has forbidden three things: ... and wasting money.»
