Can the noble verse: "And those who say: 'Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and our offspring the coolness of our eyes, and make us leaders of the righteous'" be used as evidence that marriage does not hinder a student of knowledge from religious leadership, in response to those who advocate delaying marriage for the sake of seeking knowledge?

Marriage offers great benefits, but if another benefit, such as acquiring beneficial knowledge that the student cannot attain while married, outweighs it, then delaying marriage is better, provided it does not harm one's religious commitment. Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi advised the student of Hadith to remain single as much as possible so as not to be preoccupied by the rights of a wife and livelihood, which would distract him from seeking knowledge. However, the default and general rule is to hasten marriage, as it is among the traditions of the Prophets and preferable to abandoning it for supererogatory acts of worship. Marriage does not hinder the pursuit of knowledge; rather, it may assist it by providing peace of mind and tranquility, as Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen mentioned. The verse mentioned speaks of the righteous asking their Lord to grant them beneficial knowledge, righteous deeds, and coolness of the eyes in their spouses and offspring. There is no contradiction in a single person achieving leadership in religion and knowledge along with coolness of the eyes in spouses and offspring. The derivation from the verse regarding prioritizing or delaying marriage for a student of knowledge is not apparent.
