Is a wife permitted to leave the house for life's necessities, or to learn English, or to visit the doctor, if her husband refuses?

Originally, a wife's leaving her home without her husband's permission is forbidden, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Do not prevent the female servants of Allah from the mosques of Allah." This indicates that the husband has the right to prevent his wife from leaving, and that she should not leave except with his permission. However, she may leave without her husband's permission in cases of necessity or dire need that would cause her hardship, such as going to a judge to seek her rights, or to earn maintenance if her husband is unable to provide it, or to seek a religious ruling (fatwa) if her husband is not learned in religious matters. As for going to a park or learning English, these do not permit leaving without his permission due to the availability of alternatives. Going to the doctor is permissible in cases of necessity or need, unless it is a routine matter where there is no difficulty or harm in delaying it. It is advised that understanding prevail between the spouses and that the husband should not be stubborn in allowing her to leave unless there is a fear of corruption.
