Does joy in obedience and repentance sometimes lead to a return to sin, and must one continue to reproach oneself for shortcomings, and if a person does not feel this reproach, what should they do? And is repeatedly hearing the verse (And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good) by chance considered a message from Allah for repentance?

Joy in obedience is of two types: Praiseworthy, if it is a rejoicing in God's grace and a hope for His reward, without seeking people's praise; this is a sign of faith. And blameworthy, if it is self-admiration or seeking people's praise; this is a great danger. Reproaching oneself and accusing it of shortcomings are characteristics of believing doers of good. The reproaching soul (nafs lawwama) is of two types: blameworthy and not blameworthy. The noblest of souls is that which reproaches itself in obedience to God. Despising one's own self for the sake of God is a characteristic of the truthful (siddiqin). And hearing specific verses repeatedly is a reminder, an admonition, and a proof from God Almighty.
