Will a father who has apostatized, is suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder and bipolar disorder, be held accountable for his apostasy? And what is the family's role towards him, and what are their rights and his rights upon them, given his lack of cooperation with treatment? And what kind of relationship should exist between the wife and her children and the husband's father if she marries him?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) involves evil thoughts and notions that recur in a person's mind against their will. Its treatment involves increasing the remembrance of Allah and ignoring the intrusive thoughts. Some cases may require consulting a doctor. Allah does not hold a person accountable for these obsessive thoughts because they are beyond one's control. And whoever utters disbelief due to obsessive thoughts, without awareness or intent, will not be held accountable for it.

As for the family's role towards a father afflicted with OCD, it consists of tolerating him, being patient with him, striving to treat him, increasing prayers for him, and performing legal ruqyah on him.

Regarding marriage to a suitor whose father is ill, there is no harm in it if the suitor is of good character and religious commitment. However, it is advisable to proceed with caution and consult with guardians. If accepted, it is preferable for the dwelling to be separate, while striving to be kind to the father.
