What is my duty regarding jihad, and what is the meaning of the hadith: "He who dies without having fought, and without having intended to fight, dies on a branch of hypocrisy," and how do I prepare myself for jihad and connect knowledge, da'wah (Islamic propagation), and jihad?

Whoever dies without having fought in a military expedition or having harbored the intention to do so, dies having fallen into a branch of hypocrisy. That is, he resembles the hypocrites who lagged behind from jihad, because abandoning jihad is one of the branches of hypocrisy. Preparing oneself for jihad is achieved by knowing its merits and rulings, and by preparing oneself with various acts of obedience, and by training oneself in sacrifice and spending in the cause of Allah, and by studying the lives of the Mujahidin, and by intending to mobilize when the means and ability are present, and by studying the Prophet's biography and his ghazawat (military expeditions), and by understanding the issue of gradualism in jihad, and by starting with the closest enemy, and by being wary of hypocritical movements, and by engaging in the four types of jihad: the jihad against the self, the devil, the disbelievers, and the hypocrites, and the importance of jihad with wealth alongside jihad with one's self. Da'wah (calling to Islam) and jihad do not contradict each other, for each has its time and domain. Da'wah takes place before and after battle, and if there is no ongoing jihad, then the doors of da'wah are open.
