Is it obligatory for a person who is confined to a wheelchair to go to the mosque for prayers?

Some scholars are of the view that a disabled person (one who cannot walk) is not obligated to attend Friday prayer (Jumu'ah) or congregational prayers (Jama'ah), even if he finds someone to carry him, because ability through another is not considered true ability. In contrast, the Shafi'is and Hanbalis believe that a disabled person is obligated to attend Jumu'ah if he finds a ride or someone to carry him without hardship or harm, whereas he is not obligated to attend Jama'ah. The conclusion is that a disabled person is not required to go to the mosque for congregational prayer, but Jumu'ah is obligatory for him if he can go without hardship or harm; otherwise, it is not.
