Will the university student who does not find time to learn the rules of Tajweed now, and postpones that until after graduation, be sinful?

Learning the rules of Tajweed is divided into two categories: obligatory (wajib) and recommended (mustahabb). The obligatory is that whose abandonment leads to a change in the structure or a corruption of the meaning, and its abandoner is sinful. The recommended is that which beautifies the wording and pronunciation, and its abandoner is not sinful.

Whoever makes many errors (lahn) in reciting the Qur’an, while being able to learn, must refrain from recitation until they learn. However, if the error cannot be corrected, and the error is predominant, then they must abandon it and strive to learn and correct Al-Fatiha. If the correct recitation is predominant and they are unable to achieve perfect equality, then there is no harm in their recitation, while lowering their voice so that others do not hear it.

Tajweed can be learned at home through recorded audio lessons and by listening to the recitations of shaykhs and attempting to correct through listening. If the error is clear (jaliyy) and prevents recitation, then one should suffice with listening and looking at the mushaf.

Learning and memorizing Al-Fatiha correctly must be done without delay.
