Is a daughter's shunning of her father, who mistreated her and caused her severe psychological harm, affecting her life and relationships, considered religiously forbidden (haram), and is she to be excused for it?

If a father is unjust and criminal, and he is fully conscious, then it is permissible to detest him and feel aversion towards him. However, Islamic law grants the father a right over his child that is not forfeited by his injustice. Therefore, one must associate with him with kindness and not obey him in polytheism, even if they wrong him.

The questioner should seek Allah's help, strive against her own self, and maintain ties with her father to the best of her ability without incurring harm, even if it is merely through a phone call.

If she is overwhelmed due to psychological effects, she is excused. She should turn to Allah, engage in much remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (du'a), and seek help from specialists in psychotherapy.
