Is the abandonment of the rights of Allah Almighty a worse state in the sight of Allah than the commission of sins?

Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned that abandoning commandments is graver in the sight of Allah than committing prohibitions, for several reasons: among them, the story of Adam and Iblis. He stated that the sin of abandoning a command usually stems from arrogance, unlike committing a prohibition which stems from desire. Furthermore, performing commanded acts is more beloved to Allah than refraining from prohibited acts. Allah has linked love to the performance of commandments and denied it to those who commit prohibitions. The performance of commanded acts is an end in itself, while refraining from prohibitions is supplementary to it. In addition, performing commanded acts is the life of the heart, and whoever abandons them will not be saved. Obedience and disobedience primarily relate to commands, and compliance is servitude and the ultimate purpose of creation.
