Can a non-Muslim listen to and recite the Qur’an?

It is permissible for a non-Muslim to listen to the Quran, learn it, and recite it for the purpose of admonition and guidance, and he should not be prevented from doing so. Indeed, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to let the polytheists hear the Quran. However, if his listening and reciting are for the purpose of mockery and ridicule, then it is forbidden, and it is not permissible to teach him at that time. The jurists have held that it is permissible to teach a non-Muslim the Quran if his conversion to Islam is hoped for, and forbidden to teach him if his conversion is not hoped for, or if he is obstinate.
