Is the sudden change in the behavior of the engaged couple, the increase in their disagreements after the engagement, and the effect of reciting Surat Al-Falaq, considered to be an evil eye or envy, and what is the correct action in this situation, especially with the presence of laziness in performing the obligatory prayers?

A suitor is a stranger to his fiancée until the marriage contract is concluded. The evil eye is real, but one should not exaggerate in fearing it. Its effect can be warded off by the prescribed invocations and reliance upon Allah, and its effect can be treated with ruqyah (Islamic exorcism). Laziness in performing obligatory duties is among the causes of tribulation, for no tribulation descends except due to a sin, and none is removed except through repentance, as stated in His, the Almighty’s, saying: "And whatever strikes you of disaster – it is because of what your [own] hands have earned, and He pardons much." One must repent, safeguard obligatory duties, and avoid sins, in accordance with His, the Almighty’s, saying: "Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves."
